The 55-year-old man who died after a boating crash was identified Monday as Donald A. Bessette, of Chaplin.
The information was released by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the agency investigating the incident.
The accident happened Friday at about 7 p.m. after a 21-foot boat carrying Bessette and two other men struck a piling in the Housatonic River in Shelton.
Bessette fell into the water and couldn’t be located by the other men in the boat. Emergency responders pulled him out of the water within 15 minutes.
Bessette was first taken to Griffin Hospital, then transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he died Saturday afternoon.
A state boating accident reconstruction team is investigating.
Authorities did not release any additional information.
