ANSONIA — State police Saturday released the name of three police officers who responded to a domestic violence call Thursday that resulted in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man.
The man was identified as Michael Gregory, 30, of Ansonia.
Ansonia police said he was shot after advancing toward police while holding a knife.
The three officers who responded to the call were identified as Sgt. Christopher Flynn, a city police officer since 1990; Officer Brendon Nelson, a city police officer since December 2012, and; Officer Wojciech Podgorski, a member of the department since December 2017.
The state police Western District Major Crime Squad is investigating the shooting, which was apparently captured on police body cameras that have been given to state police.
According to a statement Friday from Ansonia Police Chief Andrew Cota, a woman walked into the lobby of the Ansonia Police Department at 7:35 p.m. Thursday and said Gregory, her boyfriend, “had become physically aggressive.” She told police Gregory was at her residence at 81 Mrytle Ave.
Police responded to the scene intending to take Gregory into custody because he had a no-contact court order lodged against him regarding the woman.
Police said Gregory ignored requests to drop a knife he was holding, and threatened police even after a Taser was used on him.
Authorities have not said how many times he was shot or which of the three officers fired the fatal shot.
