The state released a list Thursday breaking down how many people have COVID-19 in nursings homes, along with how many residents have died in those facilities.
Locally, the 128-bed Shady Knoll Health Center in Seymour is caring for 30 residents with COVID-19. Nine residents of Shady Knoll have died COVID-19 associated deaths, according to information from Gov. Ned Lamont’s office.
Apple Rehab Shelton Lakes on Lake Drive in Shelton has 106 beds. Forty of its residents have COVID-19 and 13 people have died.
The 102-bed Bishop-Wicke Health and Rehabilitation in Shelton has 22 people with the virus in the facility. Twelve people have died.
Gardner Heights Health Care Center in Shelton is licensed for 130 beds. It has 42 COVID-19 cases and 15 people living there have died.
The Hewitt Health & Rehabilitation Center in Shelton is licensed for 160 beds. Four people there have tested positive of COVID-19. There have been no deaths reported.
Finally, the 120 bed Glendale Center in Naugatuck has 17 cases and no deaths.
The CT Mirror noted the state did not release the number of licensed beds at nursing homes, which may not be reflective of the actual people living in each facility.
Statewide 1,713 people living in nursing homes have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and 375 people have died.
The state plans to update the nursing home data on a weekly basis.
The nursing home data released from the governor’s office Thursday night does not match data from the Naugatuck Valley Health District, which sends out daily COVID-19 stats to the public.
The NVHD Thursday release cited 65 deaths in the lower Naugatuck Valley. Of those 65 deaths, 59 were residents of nursing homes or assisted living facilities. The state data lists 10 fewer nursing home deaths.
However, it’s not unusual for the state to have slightly different data than the locals. It could depend on the point in time in which the data is collected. The NVHD describes its numbers as people living in nursing homes or assisted living facilities, while Thursday’s data from the state only mentioned nursing homes.
In a release Thursday, NVHD reported 706 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Naugatuck, Seymour and Shelton (Oxford is not included in the NVHD daily count because it is under the jurisdiction of another health district).
Of those 706 confirmed cases, 205 — or 29 percent — were individuals in “a nursing home, assisted living facility, group home or other similar setting.”
