The Shelton Democratic Town Committee is proud to announce that 314 Action has endorsed Kevin Kosty for Second Ward Alderman and David Gioiello for Board of Education.
314 Action is a nonprofit 501©4 founded by members of the STEM community, grassroots supporters, and political activists committed to electing more STEM candidates to office to advocate for evidence-based policy solutions.
Kevin Kosty graduated from Nazareth College of Rochester with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. He has worked as a laboratory scientist in environmental, metals, and materials laboratories, and is currently employed at PerkinElmer as a Senior Technical Support Specialist.
“As a scientist and first-time candidate, I’m proud to have the support of an organization dedicated to helping candidates who are committed to STEM innovation and environmental quality,” Kosty said. “The knowledge and skill sets that STEM trained professionals can bring to government will help us make smart decisions in our community on issues like development, taxes, education and protecting the environment. I will bring that balanced approach and reason to Shelton as Alderman.”
In his campaign for office, Kevin is advocating for the revitalization of our downtown, including infrastructure improvements, walking access, improved traffic flow and parking, contamination clean-up, and preservation of green space for the benefit of residents.
David Gioiello holds a BS from the University of Detroit and an MS from Wayne State University. Gioiello has worked for GE, NASA and currently is co-owner of a consulting firm specializing in occupational safety and health. He has served on several national professional boards and is past president of a Foundation that provides scholarships to students pursuing degrees in safety and health. Gioiello is committed to increasing student SAT scores and graduation rates. If re-elected, he will continue working to ensure that the children of Shelton receive a quality education.
“STEM education must grow within our educational program, as one trained in science I know firsthand the key to our future is through good science and engineering.”
Kosty and Gioiello are the only candidates in Connecticut to be endorsed by 314 Action for the 2017 election. Kosty is also endorsed by the Naugatuck Valley Young Democrats.
314 Action was founded in July 2016 and has grown into a network of over 225,000 STEM advocates. In addition to electing more STEM candidates to office, the organization also aims to make science more accessible to the public; educate, advocate for, and defend the integrity of science; strengthen communication among the STEM community, the public, and our elected officials; and promote the responsible use of data driven, fact based approaches to public policy.
