Snow, Ice, Snow, Ice, Ice, Ice

The National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning that is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The ice storm warning replaces the winter storm warning that had been posted.

Ice started falling in the Valley about 11:15 a.m., as the video shows.

Today’s storm — the eighth major storm of the season, canceled classes Tuesday in Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton.

The latest forecast calls for 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice by late Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

While car crashes are being reported all over the state, the Valley had been relatively unscathed as of 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Traffic on Route 8 in both directions has been sluggish all day passing over downtown Derby and Shelton.

Ansonia city hall, library and Nature Center were scheduled to close at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The city has extended the deadline to pay taxes from Tuesday until Friday, Mayor James Della Volpe announced Tuesday afternoon.

DPW crews all over the Valley scampered Tuesday morning to get rid of large snow mounds before they became encased in ice.

Valley Indy reporter Jodie Mozdzer shot this video of DPW crews in Derby on Elizabeth Street:
