Storm Wrecks Roof On Oxford School Building

Saturday’s Nor’easter send tree limbs smashing into a building at Oxford’s Center School.

The damage is so severe the roof will have to be replaced — and the earliest that work might be finished is Sunday (Nov. 6), if the school district can get the needed materials.

That was the word Monday morning from John Barlow, the Oxford school district’s facilities manager.

Tuesday, Superintendent James Connelly said it’s looking more like 10 days to three weeks before the repairs are made.

The school district will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said.

Building no. 6 was battered during the storm. The building holds two classrooms and can fit 50 students.

Workers from Lou’s Tree Service LLC were at the campus Monday morning clearing away wreckage, as the photo shows.

Barlow said about seven trees — which are still standing — will be removed as part of the clean up.

The trees are compromised,” Barlow said. They had a lot of weight on them. It’s better to remove them. We don’t want them coming down when the kids are running around here.”

Oxford Center School is at 462 Oxford Road.

The school is set up in a campus style, with a main building and several smaller buildings with classrooms.
