SEYMOUR — A 26-year-old man from Stratford was seriously injured after crashing his vehicle on Route 8 Wednesday afternoon.

State police said Michael Elijiah Kessler was driving a 2013 Infiniti G37 south on Route 8 near exit 21 when he veered into the median, struck a guardrail, then struck a vehicle in the northbound lane. The vehicle Kessler hit then sideswiped another vehicle heading north on Route 8.

Police do not know why Kessler lost control of this car and crossed the median.

The other drivers were not seriously injured, police said in an accident summary.

Police are investigating the crash and are asking anyone with information to call 203 393 4200 or to email Trooper Peter Atwood at Peter.Atwood@ct.gov.

The crash happened at 3:15 p.m. and closed Route 8 in both directions for about three hours, which caused major traffic jams in Seymour and Ansonia.
