Photo: Eugene DriscollThe Derby fire marshal is investigating the cause of a fire reported Sunday outside a house overlooking Derby Avenue.

Firefighters were sent to 301 Derby Ave. at about 3:30 p.m.

It was reported as smoke coming from the front of the building,” Derby Fire Department Chief Michael Goodman said. When we got here there was a little fire right by the front door.”

The fire appeared to have started in a small plant outside the front of the home.

The fire damaged the front door and and melted some siding on the house. Overall the damage was minor, and there were no injuries reported.

The house is 134 years old, city tax records show.

As Derby firefighters quickly extinguished that blaze, firefighters in Seymour dealt with a brush fire that was first reported about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The fire was off North Street.

About an acre of woods burned, according to a post on the Citizens Engine Co.‘s Facebook page.

Crews were on scene for two hours.
