Support Democracy And Buy A Valley Indy T-Shirt

The Valley Independent Sentinel is a FREE publication, and has been for 10 years.

But producing the news is NOT free. Just ask anyone who remembers The Evening Sentinel.

Example — The Valley Indy lost money on Election Day (Nov. 5).

It cost about $600 to hire reporters to cover the races in Ansonia, Derby and Seymour. We made $300 in advertising revenue.

Help us raise the other $300 — and look good doing it!

Click here to buy a $15 Valley Indy T‑shirt (plus five bucks shipping and handling).

They will be on sale until the end of the month — which is coming up fast.

Here’s why you should consider buying a shirt:

We had three reporters in 2012. Today’s there is one.

Yet on Election Day The Valley Indy had more reporters on the ground in Ansonia, Derby and Seymour than any other publication. We had six reporters total — one in each campaign HQs in Ansonia and Derby, plus two reporters to get results and reaction in Seymour. Hiring five reporters costs money.

We posted videos, wrote stories, took photos and worked well into the morning of Nov. 6. The day after the election, The Valley Indy recorded two podcasts going over the results. Those recordings will post soon.

Prior the Election Day The Valley Indy:

  • Published about 50 campaign-related letters to the editor.
  • The Valley Indy published in-depth podcast interviews with the mayoral candidates in Ansonia and Derby.
  • We conducted a live video Q&A with the Seymour First Selectman about a question on the ballot.
  • We offered all Aldermanic candidates in Ansonia and Derby a chance to hand in an emailed Q&A. Thirteen candidates in Derby submitted answers.
  • Hopefully that’s enough to convince you to buy a $15 T‑shirt (plus five bucks shipping)!
