Hundreds of groups from the Valley and greater New Haven are participating in “The Great Give 2013,” which kicked off at 8 a.m.
It’s a 36-hour mega fundraiser for non-profit groups and area organizations.
Locally, donations are being matched by The Valley Community Foundation, which means the money you donate goes that much further (scroll down for more info on how the VCF is helping groups in your town).
The Valley Indy, the two-person nonprofit, independent news site you’re reading at the moment, is participating.

Here are some of the lower Valley groups participating (if we missed your group, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and we’ll add it to the mix).

The Valley Community Foundation (VCF) is pleased to join The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven in supporting the nonprofit sector by contributing $25,000 toward the $150,000 in matching funds and grants that will be awarded to nonprofits on giveGreater.org during The Great Give 2013 — a 36-hour online giving campaign designed to increase giving to local nonprofits serving Greater New Haven and the Valley in South Central Connecticut.
VCF contributions will be distributed based on donor participation during The Great Give 2013, which takes place between October 2 at 8:00 am and end October 3 at 8:00 pm.
Money will be allocated as follows:
- All donations made between $25 – $125 by Valley Community Foundation fund holders or Valley donors (individuals who reside or work in the towns served by VCF: Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour or Shelton) during the 36-hour period will be matched until the $20,000 match pool is exhausted
- A $2,000 grand prize for the nonprofit that secures the greatest number of individual donors and the most new donors
- A $2,000 grand prize for the nonprofit that secures the most new donors
- $1,000 for special prizes to be awarded randomly during the event
A gift from you during The Great Give 2013 could be the one that puts a nonprofit in the running to receive the largest grants of $15,000, $5,000, and $3,000.
