Suspect In NYC Murder Arrested In Shelton

Shelton PDA 52-year-old man suspected of killing a man in New York City was arrested in Shelton Monday.

George Cupi, of Westside Lane, was arrested at 5 a.m., according to a prepared statement from Shelton police.

Shelton police assisted U.S. Marshals and detectives from the 102nd precinct in Queens.

According to Shelton police, Cupi was in a traffic dispute” with two men on July 14, 2011 on 125th Street in Queens, N.Y.

After the argument Cupi was reported to have left the scene but returned a short time later and shot both men with a hand gun,” according to Shelton Detective Richard Bango.

One of the men was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The other man survived his injuries. There is no indication of a prior relationship between Cupi and the two men,” Bango said.

According to the NY Daily News, the victim was a 25-year-old man who died after being shot several times in the torso. The other man was shot in the face.

The shooting happened in Kew Gardens, an upper-middle class neighborhood in Queens.

The News reported two brothers were double parked in a Cadillac. The shooter, according to the News, was in a van that couldn’t squeeze by.

An argument ensued.

Witnesses said the shooter laughed after firing the weapon, as if it was a joke,” according to the Times Ledger.

Cupi was charged in Connecticut as a fugitive from justice. He was being held on a $100,000 bond pending a Dec. 22 court appearance in Derby.

He is expected to be extradited to New York on various charges,” according to Shelton police.
