TEAM, Inc. celebrated its 45th Anniversary Oct. 6 with a presentation of community awards to a number of people and groups who have gone above and beyond in their support of the organization.
The annual meeting was held at John J. Sullivan’s in Ansonia.
The Lillian Chrostowski Award was presented to Daun Barrett, Valley Parish Nurse Coordinator at Griffin Hospital. Barrett is a social service professional whose outstanding work has had a profound and positive effect on the Valley community.
The Heritage Award was presented to Hazel Hummel, who completed five years of leadership and support as a Member of TEAM’s Board of Directors.
Partnership Awards are in recognition of a business, organization or agency partner whose outstanding support and collaboration has assisted TEAM in advancing its mission.
This year’s Partnership Award went to the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club for its support of the children in TEAMs’ Early Education program by providing students winter coats through its Project Warm campaign.
Shelton Echo House Ambulance Corp. and the Pine Rock Shelton Volunteer Fire Company were also recognized for the support both organizations provide to the Valley Toys for Tots Program.
The Chairman’s Award was presented to Bob Manger, for his outstanding service and commitment to the community as President of the Recreation Camp.
The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. J. Otis Smith, officer and senior consultant of Stand By Systems, II, Inc., a consultation firm of national scope that specializes in team development, conflict resolution, facilitation, and motivation.
Smith is a professor of psychology Emeritus at Cheney University. Dr. Smith’s work and research with low-income populations have led to the development of the Family Theory of Motivation.
TEAM Inc. is a private, 501c (3) non-profit corporation whose mission is to connect individuals and families with solutions that lead to well-being, self-sufficiency and full participation in the community. It aims to achieve its mission by conducting activities that address the needs of economically disadvantaged individuals and families including resource mobilization, education, advocacy and service delivery. TEAM programs serve the communities of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, Milford, Orange, Oxford, Shelton, Seymour and Woodbridge.
