TEAM, Inc. Offers SAFE Workshops (Savings, Assets and Financial Education)

It’s been estimated that millions of Americans spend as much as $8 billion per year at check cashing outlets, payday lenders and pawnshops on basic financial services that most people can receive for free.

Over a lifetime, the average full-time, unbanked worker may spend more than $40,000 just to turn her or his salary into cash.

TEAM, Inc. addresses this issue by offering “Bank on Connecticut”, a two-hour workshop including practical advice about how to avoid check cashing fees, establish good credit, save for the future and connects individuals with money management tools like checking and savings accounts.

Upon completion of the course, participants are granted a Member Card, and are matched with a local partner bank that provides affordable banking services.

TEAM offers monthly programs concerning financial health and financial safety.

These free workshops are designed to help individuals more effectively manage personal finances and to educate the community about timely financial topics.

In addition to “Bank on Connecticut”, on Aug. 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., an expert about identity theft and fraud will discuss what to do when personal identity is stolen and how to avoid being a victim of fraud.

September offers a night with the State of Connecticut to learn about being a first time homeowner.

October addresses easy ways to set up household budgets, and November’s financial focus is how to evaluate and negotiate purchasing a used car.
