No weapons were used and the victim wasn’t struck by a vehicle. No charges filed.
Those are the few details that emerged Friday from the investigation into an assault on Canal Street.
A 17-year-old Shelton boy was found bleeding on the street at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Detective Ben Trabka said.
He suffered serious head injuries and remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Yale-New Haven Hospital as of Friday evening.
Police have conducted extensive interviews and are still trying to piece together what happened to the teen, whose name was not released.
“We’re not clear as to how his injuries were sustained yet,” Trabka said.
Trabka said Friday police interviewed three people who were at the scene, left and were then located by police.
“There are people that were present during the incident. They are cooperating.”
Trabka would not say whether the people interviewed are suspects. They all live in Shelton.
“We’re still early in the investigation,” Trabka said.
The post from Friday morning follows
Shelton police released a statement Friday morning regarding a teenager found badly injured on Canal Street.
Sgt. Robert Kozlowsky said police received a call at 4:45 p.m. Thursday for a person lying on the ground. Emergency officials responded, where they found a 17-year-old man incoherent and bleeding from his nose and ears.
He was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The Valley Indy reported yesterday that the hospital was put on trauma alert by the ambulance bringing the victim to the hospital — an indication of potentially life-threatening injuries.
Last night Shelton police were looking for a truck which may have been connected to the incident. The Connecticut Post Friday morning reported Detective Ben Trabka saying three teens connected to the incident drove away, but responded back to the scene and were cooperating with police.
In the prepared statement issued Friday morning, police said no weapons were used. They did not say how the teen was hurt.
“Police were able to locate several witnesses to the incident. Police believe that the individuals involved in this altercation are known to each other, and this was not a random incident. There is no evidence at this time that any weapons were used in this assault,” Kozlowsky said.
“This incident is currently under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time.”
Police are asking anyone with information to call the department at (203) 924‑1544.
