Police said a teen returning home from school caught two people burglarizing her house Monday.
According to Detective Ben Trabka, the 15-year-old girl noticed a woman sitting in a pick-up truck in her driveway upon returning home at about 2:20 p.m.
The woman in the truck asked the teen for directions to a street not in the area. When the teen entered the house, the woman in the truck started blowing the truck’s horn, police said.
At that point, the girl heard someone running inside the house. She called 911.
Officer Richard Bango spotted the truck on Meadow Street, near the police department. After stopping the truck, police said they found items stolen earlier in the day from one other burglary.
The truck, meanwhile, was reported stolen out of Redding.
Police said they found about $3,500 worth of stolen jewelry and electronics inside the truck.
The suspects — Amanda Carrasquillo, 23 and Philip Rivera, 24 — are charged with two counts each of third-degree burglary, one count each of second-degree larceny, third-degree larceny and fourth-degree larceny.
A search of the suspects’ Bridgeport residence turned up more stolen items. Shelton police are working with other police departments to determine where the items are from.
The Shelton burglaries were in the area of Buddington Road and Soundview Avenue.
Both suspects were scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Derby today (Tuesday, Sept. 14).
