An unidentified 13-year-old girl was hit by a car on River Road Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The incident happened about 3:30 p.m., near 220 River Road.
Police said the teen had serious, non-life threatening injuries, and is in critical condition.
Police and emergency medical services responded to the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, Lori Martino, told police she was traveling north on River Road when the girl ran out into the roadway. Martino told police she was unable to avoid hitting her.
Martino did not report any injuries, police said.
The case is currently being investigated by the Shelton Police Traffic Division.
There had been no enforcement action taken as of Wednesday morning.
Last May, two other teenagers were hit by a car on the same road. They had non-life threatening injuries.
