
The Great Give, The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven’s community-wide online giving event, is back for its tenth year!
Starting at 8 a.m. on May 1 and ending at 8 p.m. on May 2, gifts made to hundreds of participating nonprofits will be eligible for more than $210,000 in matching funds and prizes.
Over 36 hours, our community will raise funds for local nonprofits serving the 20-town region spanning Greater New Haven, the Valley and the Shoreline.
In 2018, more than $1.7 million was raised, making it the most successful year ever for The Great Give.
Grand prizes ranging from $15,000 to $1,000 will be awarded to the nonprofits that attract the greatest number of unique donors; get the greatest number of new donors; raise the most money; in addition to competitive hourly prizes and more.

Gifts made during The Great Give on www.thegreatgive.org will be matched on a pro-rated basis with funds provided by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and its partner in philanthropy, the Valley Community Foundation. The Valley Community Foundation, has committed $26,500 in matching funds and prizes.
New in 2019, in recognition of The Community Foundation hosting its tenth Great Give, a $10,000 prize will be awarded to the participating nonprofit with the greatest number of gifts from unique donors between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on May 1. Also new, the Guilford Foundation and the Branford Community Foundation are offering a $1,000 prize each for organizations based in their towns.
Returning sponsors of The Great Give:
Alexion Pharmaceuticals is offering a $2,500 prize to the organization working in Health and Wellness and based in New Haven with the greatest number of unique donors. In addition, Alexion will contribute $5,000 to the general match pool.
Bank of America is providing a matching pool of $5,000 for performing arts organizations.
Liberty Bank Foundation is offering two prizes, totaling $3,000 to the organization working in Housing and Homelessness ($2,000) and to the Valley-based organization working in Basic Needs ($1,000) with the greatest number of unique donors between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on May 2.
The Taproom at Bad Sons Beer Co. is serving a Charity Tap, where part of the proceeds from each sale will be pooled then donated to a select Valley-based organization.
More prizes are expected to be announced.

Nonprofits can register to participate in The Great Give until April 12. Organizations must be a 501©(3) charitable nonprofits or have a 501©(3) sponsor and that are headquartered and/or provide services in at least one of the twenty towns served by The Community Foundation.
Advance gifts can be made for The Great Give beginning April 19 at 8:00 a.m. Advance gifts will count toward grand prize calculations, but will not be counted toward hourly prize incentives.
