The Latest From Center Stage In Shelton

Center Stage Theatre director Gary Scarpa will hold auditions for the theatre’s Youth CONNection production of the Broadway hit The Drowsy Chaperone from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 26th. High School and college students from all Connecticut towns are eligible to audition. All roles are open and newcomers as well as experienced actors are welcome to audition.

This summer, Youth CONNection will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Recent productions have included Legally Blonde, Annie Get Your Gun, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

The Drowsy Chaperone is a parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. The story begins with a modern day musical theatre enthusiast known simply as the man in the chair,” who greets the audience and plays his favorite LP of the 1928 musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone.” As the record begins to play, the musical magically bursts to life in his apartment, telling the story of a pampered Broadway starlet who wants to give up show business and get married, her producer who sets out to sabotage the wedding, her debonaire groom, her chaperone, her latin lover, and a pair of bumbling gangsters. The Broadway production won five Tony Awards and seven Drama Desk Awards in 2006.

Candidates will be required to sing one minute of a song of their choice, preferably from a Broadway musical. It is recommended candidates sing along with a recording of their song as there will not be a piano accompanist. There will also be a dance audition. Those interested in auditioning are required to sign up for a time slot at www.mysignup.com/drowsychaperone.
