Kevin Johnson from the CT State Library History & Genealogy Unit To Give Free In- Person Presentation, The Life and Times of Pvt. William Webb: An African-American Civil War Soldier from Connecticut” Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 6:30 PM at the Seymour Public Library. Registration is not required.

Seymour Public Library welcomes Kevin Johnson from the CT State Library & Genealogy Unit for a free in person presentation as he personifies William Webb in, The Life and Times of Pvt. William Webb: An African-American Civil War Soldier from Connecticut” Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 6:30 PM.

Kevin Johnson has been bringing William Webb to life through this presentation for twenty years. Private Webb was an actual person, a native of Hartford, CT. He was recruited in 1863 and served in the Twenty-Ninth (Colored) Regiment, Connecticut Volunteer Infantry in several battles in Virginia.

Johnson’s presentation of Webb is told in a first-person perspective that vividly illustrates the struggle of the African-Americans in the Colored Infantry during the Civil War and what life in Hartford and during the Civil War could be like. The presentation is based on extensive research in the collections of the Connecticut State Library and the Museum of Connecticut History at 231 Capitol Ave.
