The Marvelous Wonderettes, under the direction of Francesca Scarpa, will open at Center Stage Theatre in Shelton April 5.
The production plays on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. through April 20 with 2 p.m. matinees on April 7, 14, and 21. There is a 7 p.m. performance on Thursday, April 18.
The Marvelous Wonderettes takes place at the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts.
As we learn about their lives and loves, we are treated to the girls performing such classic ’50s and ’60s songs as “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick On Your Collar,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” “It’s My Party,” as well as many other classic hits.
Act II resumes a decade later at the girls’ ten year reunion where the girls sing hits from the 1960s. The play was written and created by Roger Bean and was an Off-Broadway sensation from 2008 through 2010.
The Center Stage production will star Melissa Rampton and Fiona Bryson of Shelton, Casey Perruzzi of Stratford, and Caitlin O’Keefe Boles of Newtown.
Scarpa, the director of the play said, “The Marvelous Wonderettes takes us on a trip down memory lane, bringing back delightful songs and recollections of great female vocalists like Connie Francis and the McGuire Sisters, to name a few. We have a cast of four musically talented young women who can sing the tight harmonies and deliver the dramatic vocal performances that the show calls for.”
Center Stage is located at 54 Grove St., in Shelton. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased online at centerstageshelton.com or by calling 203 – 225-6079.
