Here are the Valley Indy’s most watched videos of 2015.
1. Derby Firefighters Work to Free Person in Donation Bin
The Valley Indy’s most watched video of 2015 is 19 seconds long, and features a group of Derby firefighters working to free a woman from a donation bin in the parking lot of St. Michael’s Church on Derby Avenue in May.
First responders were able to cut the lock on the donation bin and free the woman after a few minutes.
All’s well that ends well.
2. Ansonia Standoff Suspect Surrenders
A scary incident unfolded at the Beaver Brook Apartments on Ansonia’s Woodbridge Avenue in May, when a 31-year-old man who lives there allegedly assaulted a neighbor before holing himself up in his apartment.
Cops negotiated with the man for about three hours, and he eventually surrendered after a friend persuaded him over the phone.
The man emerged from the apartment and hugged his friend before being taken into custody without incident.
Charges are pending at Superior Court.
3. Fatal Fire In Derby
An early morning fire tore through a multi-family home on Derby Avenue in August, killing one woman and making about 20 other residents temporarily homeless.
Firefighters from Derby and surrounding towns responded, eventually bringing the chaotic scene under control.
The fire’s cause was “undetermined.”
4. Shelton Student Vs. Aldermanic President
Shelton High School student Zak Shilleh was among the last speakers at a budget hearing before the Board of Aldermen in May.
He had been talking for about 4 minutes about how he was put in special education classes within the school system, and how he had to work harder than most to learn information, crediting Shelton teachers, when Board of Aldermen President John Anglace interjected, telling him to wrap up his remarks.
Anglace would regret the interjection.
During the Aldermen’s next meeting, Anglace read a letter apologizing — profusely — to Shilleh.
5. Valley Firearms Burglary
On Sept. 2 a thief broke into Valley Firearms on Shelton’s Howe Avenue and stole several handguns.
The store’s surveillance system captured the masked perp during the brazen break-in, and cops released a 14-second video showing the theft.
We have not heard about an arrest, FYI.
