The Weenie Wagon, which has been closed since a devastating fire at Housatonic Wire Co., reopened this week about 500 feet from its former location on River Street in Seymour.
Carolyn Schumacher’s hot dog stand is now located in the former Seymour Lumber parking lot at the corner of River Street and Route 67.
While River Street remains blocked until the remains of Housatonic Wire can be removed, the Weenie Wagon parking lot is still accessible from Route 67.
Schumacher was greeted Friday with hugs and kind words during the lunch hour. (Click play on the video to see the activity Friday afternoon.)
She was all smiles as she chatted with regulars and greeted new customers.
Schumacher repeated how grateful she is to the firefighters who helped save her hot dog stand, and is offering them free lunch as a ‘Thank You.’
Schumacher doesn’t have electricity at the new location — yet — so her menu for the weekend includes only hot dogs and kielbasa.
Schumacher says her full menu will return sometime next week, when she gets a generator.
The Weenie Wagon is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
