Theresa Conroy Announces Bid For State Rep

Theresa W. Conroy has announced she will seek election to represent the 105th District in the Connecticut General Assembly in November.

The district includes Beacon Falls, Seymour, and part of Ansonia.

The announcement was recently made before the Seymour Democratic Town Committee, where she received a unanimous endorsement.

Conroy, who is currently a member of the Seymour Board of Selectmen and was previously the 105th District representative, said she wants to focus on economic development, education, healthcare, senior and military issues.

I pledge to you to work just as hard as I can to ensure that the voices of the 105th District are heard in Hartford,” Conroy said during a speech at the nominating committee.

We have the needed infrastructure in place to expand on these great communities: rivers, a railroad and a highway system that can take us to another level. What I will provide is the voice and tenacity to get projects going and see them through.”

Conroy was born and raised in Seymour, where she traces her family’s involvement in town politics back to the 1850s. Conroy was a nurse at the West Haven Veterans Affairs Medical Center for 28 years before she left that job to become a state representative.

In 2010, she was unseated by Republican Len Greene, who currently holds the seat.

Conroy, in a press release, said her work as a state representative included getting state funding for the Chatfield/LoPresti School renovation project, the Tingue Fish Bypass ladder project and the Depot Street Bridge repair.

Conroy said she also introduced and enacted legislation for the Housatonic Wire development project, and the paving of Main Street from Seymour through to North Main Street in Ansonia.
