SATURDAY, JUNE 4
- Boy Scouts Giant Tag Sale
Boy Scout Troop 25 will be sponsoring a Giant Tag Sale on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Shelton, 188 Rocky Rest Rd. (Corner of Long Hill Ave), Shelton. For more info, call 203 – 924-8070.
- Seymour First Saturday Block Dance
The band Flashback plays music of memories live at First Street and Bank Street, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Community Shred Day
St. Mary-St. Michael School is sponsoring a Community Shred Day from 9 a.m. to noon at the school, 14 Seymour Avenue in Derby.
Take the first step to protect yourself from identity theft. Eco Shred will provide shredding services on site, allowing you to watch your documents be destroyed. All shredded documents will be recycled, thus helping the environment.
Donations will be $10.00 for each small box/bag up to 30 lbs, and $15.00 for each box/bag over 30 lbs. All proceeds will benefit St. Mary-St. Michael School.
- Ansonia Dodgeball Tournament
The dodgeball tournament will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 4 at the Ansonia High School gymnasium.
The tournament is hosted by the new father’s club at Prendergast School to raise enough money to build a new playground at the school.
- Huntington Library Branch Book Sale
Great deals on books, DVDs, VHS tapes, and more. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Shelton Libraries. Friends members get a 10 percent discount. Free coffee and treats for browsers. The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Shelton Relay For Life
Join one of 50 teams at the Shelton Riverwalk as they raise money for cancer research.
The event starts at noon on June 4, with a survivors luncheon. The opening ceremony is at 2 p.m., and the event extends to 7 a.m. on June 5.
- National Trails Day Celebration
There are 193 Trails Day events scheduled in 115 towns.
In Shelton, the Shelton Trails Committee will host a guided hike and bike along the Shelton Lakes Recreation Path at 10:30 a.m. Meet at Pine Lake at Rt. 108 outside downtown Shelton.
Jones Family Farms will offer a farmer’s heritage hike on the 400-acre farm at 10 a.m. to noon.
The Ansonia Nature Center will host a free hike at 9 a.m. The hike is for ages 5 and up, and focuses on fragrant plants. It is led by guest naturalists Peter and Barbara Rzasa. Call 203 – 736-1053 to register.
- Learn To Fish
The Ansonia Nature Center will provide the poles and lures. The fishing event is hosted by Ranger Martin and Russ Zelanin at 10 a.m. Call 203 – 736-1053.
SUNDAY, JUNE 5
- Seymour Founders Day
The second annual Founders Day Celebration will be held downtown Seymour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The downtown street fair will feature entertainment, food, street vendors and a car show. As part of the festivities, the Strand Theater will show a film about the Flood of 1955, every hour between noon and 4 p.m. The polka trumpeter Marty Swiatek and his band, Back on Track, are among the performers. Free Admission.
- Parish Picnic
Hosted by St. Michael Church of Derby from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Warsaw Park on Pulaski Highway in Ansonia. Polka bands, Slavic bands, homemade Polish and American food, games; bring lawn chairs. Cost is $5/person. Call 203 – 734-0005.
- Trash To Treasure
An art program at the Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton. Join us as we go global and use recycled items to create beautiful art! Today create a Twirling Palm Puppet from India. Registration is required and begins May 21. The event takes place from 2 to 3 p.m.
- Arts and Crafts Fair
Annual fair hosted by the Shelton Jaycees, 10 – 4 p.m. on the Huntington Green in Shelton. More than 70 exhibitors expected. Judged show with prizes awarded to the top artist and crafter. For more information call 203 – 623-6698.
- Pancake Breakfast
Fundraiser hosted by Knights of Columbus St. Lawrence Monsignor Joseph Fitzgerald Council #14014, will be held 8 – 11 a.m. at the St. Lawrence School Gymnasium, 505 Shelton Ave. $5 per person includes pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee.
- Project Purple Marathon
Project Purple Team, based in Beacon Falls, is trying to run 13 half marathons in 13 months to help raise awareness and funds towards a cure for Pancreatic Cancer.
The first marathon is the Amica Iron Horse Half, Simsbury, Conn. on June 5.
The following night, Antonio’s Restaurant in Ansonia will host a fundraiser for the group at 6 p.m. Food, Beer & Wine included for a donation of $40.00.
