THINGS TO DO THIS WEEKEND

After the dust from the fireworks clears Friday, here’s a list of other stuff to keep you occupied this holiday weekend. 

FRIDAY JULY 1

  • Oxford Fireworks
    Oxford will host fireworks at 9:45 p.m. at the Great Oak Middle School softball field, on Great Oak Road. The rain date is July 2.
  • Derby-Shelton Fireworks
    Derby and Shelton will host fireworks display over the Housatonic River. The fireworks will start at about 9 p.m. A musical performance by The Glamour Girls will take place at the Shelton Riverwalk at 7 p.m., prior to the fireworks. Rain date is July 2.
  • First Friday Book Discussion
    Discuss Three Weeks With My Brother” by Nicholas Sparks at the Plumb Memorial Library at 1 p.m. Books are available at the Huntington Branch Library.
  • Stars and Stripes at The Ansonia Nature Center
    Let’s celebrate Independence Day a few days early when we discover the reds, whites, and blues of our park. Socialization and fun for toddlers and their adults with Ranger Stefanie. TUITION: $6 per session per family ($4 for family-level FANCI members and Ansonia residents). Class size is limited. Please register in advance. Fri. July 1, 10:30 am

SATURDAY JULY 2

  • Seymour Block Dance
    The Seymour Culture and Arts Commission will be hosting a block dance as part of Seymour’s First Saturday’s activities from 6 – 8 p.m. on the corner of First and Bank Streets in downtown Seymour. The concert will feature Larry Ayce, country and 50s and 60s music. There will be no raindate or rain location for the concert. Parking is available in surrounding parking lots and streets.   • Midsummer Fantasy Renaissance Faire
    The last weekend of the Midsummer Fantasy Renaissance Faire is July 2 and 3 at Warsaw Park in Ansonia. The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visit an interactive village and experience an interactive fantasy world of comedy, action, games, stage shows, music, magic, live combat, delicious food & pub, unique vendors, thrilling storyline and the comedic conjuring and death-defying danger of well-known magician Daniel Greenwolf. Admission is $15 for adults 17+, $10 for ages 10 – 16, $5 for ages 5 – 9 and free for children 4 and under. Discounts for veterans, seniors, disabled and Peace Corps. Additional Saturday night shows, 7 – 9 p.m. for separate admission fee.
  • Boy Scout Troop 25 Bottle and Can Drive
    Boy scouts will collect bottles and cans at the First United Methodist Church of Shelton on Rocky Rest Road from 9 a.m. to 10 .m. July 2.
  • Water For Elephants’ At The Strand
    Shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $4.50 each. The Strand theater is located at 165 Main St., Seymour. For more information call (203) 881‑5025.

SUNDAY JULY 3

  • Midsummer Fantasy Renaissance Faire
    The last weekend of the Midsummer Fantasy Renaissance Faire is July 2 and 3 at Warsaw Park in Ansonia.
