Quit whining that summer is over. There’s lots of fun stuff to do this fall.
Here’s some ideas for the upcoming weekend:
SATURDAY SEPT. 24
- Harvest House IV
Harvest House is a collaborative, bi-annual, effort to construct a 400 square-foot house and fill it with more than 100,000 items of food and nonperishables, which are later distributed to Valley-based food banks and agencies for people in need. It will be built on Sept. 24 at the Shelton Riverwalk. For more details, click here.
- Shelton Rec Path Celebration
Hike, Bike,Celebrate! It’s been a BIG year for the Rec Path: Two new miles of path constructed; purchase of the “Great Ledge” property — the last property along the route; and we can now ride a regular bike or walk all the way from Pine Lake 4.0 miles to Huntington Center without detouring onto hiking trails. We’ll be celebrating these milestones starting at noon Saturday, Sept. 24, behind Pine Lake. Park at Pine Lake along Shelton Ave. The Mayor will be honoring PerkinElmer for all their volunteer work along the paths and formally name “Basil Brook” in honor of Basil Dikovsky, who donated land for the Rec Path. We also hope to have activities for the kids and some food and a raffle. RAINDATE: Sunday, September 25 at 11:30 am. No registration required. If you have questions, email conservation@cityofshelton.org or call the Conservation Agent at 203 924‑1555 ×315.
