Street festivals, picnics, and a blessing of the animals. There’s lot to do in the Valley this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 30

  • Friends of the Ansonia Nature Center 20th Anniversary: The Friends of the Ansonia Nature Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a Taste of Nature Party. The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ansonia Nature Center, and will feature local honeys, fresh-baked breads and more. Tickets are $25. Click here for more information.

Saturday, Oct. 1

  • Ansonia Harvest Festival: POSTPONED< — — The eighth annual Harvest Festival will take place on Ansonia’s Main Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival includes food, entertainment, craft booths, scarecrow contests, and amusement rides. Click here for more information.
  • Smoke In The Valley: A craft beer and chili festival to benefit the Valley’s emergency services and youth sports. The event runs from noon to 4:30 p.m. behind Town Hall in Seymour, Conn. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the gate. The event will feature a chili cook-off, live music and food vendors. Click here for more information. 

  • Blessing Of The Animals: The 15th annual Blessing of the Animals at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Shelton will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Rev. Janet Waggoner will individually bless pets, and hand out complimentary treats for dogs and cats. The church is located on the Huntington Green. Click here for more information.
  • Bake, Book and Tag Sale: The Seymour Foursquare Gospel Church hosts a bake, book and tag sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, 56 West St. in Seymour.
  • School Family Dinner: St. Mary-St. Michael School will host a family-style dinner at the St. Mary church hall at 212 Elizabeth St. in Derby. The event runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The menu includes roast chicken, pasta, mixed vegetables, salad, wine and soda. The price is $15 for adults and $7 for kids.

Sunday, Oct. 2

  • Shelton Day: The Derby-Shelton Rotary will host the downtown festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The even is free, and includes food, music and entertainment. Click here for more information. 
  • St. Joseph Church Parish Picnic: Mass at 11:30 a.m., followed by a festival at Warsaw Park, 119 Pulaski Highway in Ansonia. Music will be provided by DJ Peter Danielczuk and Dennis Polisky & The Maestro’s Men. The festival will run from 1 to 8 p.m. and feature Polish and American food, refreshments, games and raffles.   • Wheel/Walk-a-thon: The National Spinal Cord Injury Association, CT Chapter (SCIACT), in conjunction with Shelton-based MovingWithHOPE, Inc., is holding the second annual Shelton Riverwalk Wheel Walk for Fitness the morning of the Shelton Day Festival. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Shelton Riverwalk. Registration for the Wheel/Walk is $20 per person. Click here for more information.
