THINGS TO DO THIS (Extended Holiday) WEEKEND

Thanksgiving is here! 

That means turkey, football, and the start of the holiday season. 

Read on for a list of activities happening in the Valley this weekend. 

THURSDAY Nov. 24

  • Commodore Hull Road Race About 700 people will participate in the annual race. It starts at 8 a.m. in Shelton on Canal Street at the Farmer’s Market, crosses into Derby, then doubles back into Shelton. Click here for more information about the race.

FRIDAY Nov. 25

SATURDAY, Nov. 26

  • Seymour Christmas Parade This year is the 40th anniversary of the parade. The parade starts at 2 p.m. at the Broad Street bridge. It will march up Main Street, then onto Route 67 and end at French Park.
  • Holiday Gift Boutique Spector Furniture is hosting a Holiday Gift Boutique from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its shop at 385 Main St. in Ansonia. Various vendors will be present selling tea, make-up, photography, scarves, beads, and soaps, among other items. There will also be a raffle. The shop is also a drop-off location for TEAMs Toys 4 Kids. For more information visit the Facebook page.
  • Derby Pop Warner Ziti Dinner Help the Junior Pee Wee and Pee Wee cheer squads raise money to travel to Disney World, where they will compete in the National Championship on Dec. 4 and 5. The squads will host a ziti dinner at Hotchkiss Hose in Derby from 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 26.

SUNDAY, Nov. 27

  • Shelton Turkey Trot The Shelton Trails Committee will hold a guided hike on the Turkey Trot Trail the Sunday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. We will meet in the Shelton Intermediate School parking lot (Constitution Blvd. North). The Turkey Trot is a two-mile loop hiking trail. Children and dogs on leashes are most welcome. Because November is Pancreatic Cancer month, awareness literature on this deadly disease and research efforts will be available.
  • Christmas Breakfast The 7th annual Christmas Breakfast sponsored by Thomas and Diane Baklik will be held at the Baklik home, 19 Chucta Road, Seymour. The Bakliks, who own the Yankee Clipper barber shop, offer a full breakfast, entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus in exchange for an unwrapped new toy for TEAM Toys 4 Kids.
