Thousands are expected to descend on Shelton’s Howe Avenue Sunday for Shelton Day, an annual street fair that raises money toward scholarships for high school students.
The event will occur rain or shine and will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the length of Howe Avenue.
Barbara Quinn, one of the organizers of the event, said more than 100 vendors have signed up.
“Many of them come year after year,” she said, noting there will be many restaurants and other food vendors, in addition to a plethora of local businesses and other agencies, and activities targeted toward children, too.
“That’s what makes it fun,” she said. “There’s a lot for everybody, all ages.”

There will also be stages set up for music in the area of Bridge Street and Center Street, Quinn said.
Shelton Day was founded and first organized by the Shelton Business District Association in the mid-1980s as a small street fair, according to the event website.
The goal was to bring people into downtown Shelton and introduce them to the business community.
It has now grown into a citywide festival and celebration, and is sponsored and run by the Derby/Shelton Rotary Club.
Proceeds from the event finance scholarships for high school students.
Howe Avenue will be closed from Cornell Street to Beard Street about 8 a.m. to allow vendors to set up, according to police. The road will re-open about 6:30 p.m.
