ANSONIA — Students at Ansonia High School are being dismissed early after an unspecified threat was made against the school.

Police are on scene investigating and are dismissing classes one at a time.

The high school was the subject of the threat. It is unsubstantiated at this time and all actions are being done out of an abundance of caution,” Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a message to The Valley Indy.

Officers have been placed at all other schools in Ansonia, too, as a precaution.

The threat was received by administrators at about 11 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. today (Monday, Dec. 13).

Authorities are requesting the public remain calm and to not come to the school to pick up students. Doing so will create traffic jams, resulting in an even longer dismissal.

Police are handling the dismissal on an orderly basis.

The dismissal could take awhile, given police are personally supervising the process to ensure safety and dismissing classroom by classroom as a precaution.

In situations such as this, the building is cleared so police can double back and do a complete search of lockers and such.

There are threats to schools happening all over Connecticut, such as this highly-publicized report out of Hamden.

More information will be added as it becomes available.
