Three people were injured Sunday in a two-car crash on Route 67 just before 1 a.m.
Police said Paul Slekis, 56, of Waterbury, was traveling north on Route 67 in the area of Old State Road 1 in his 2011 Chevrolet Camaro when a vehicle drifted over the double yellow line into the northbound lane in front of him.
He attempted to swerve left to avoid a collision, while the second vehicle attempted to serve right, and they crashed head-on, causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 2000 Honda Civic, was identified as Christopher Muggeo, 17, Beacon Falls. He had a passenger with him, David Lucisano, 18, of Naugatuck.
Firefighters said they had to free the two men in the Honda by cutting its doors off. They were both unconscious when responders arrived, Chief Scott Pelletier said.
Slekis and Muggeo were transported to Waterbury Hospital.
Lucisano was sent to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The accident remains under investigation.
