Three New Police Officer Recruits In Derby

Mayor Anita Dugatto and the Derby Police Department Board of Police Commissioners welcomed three new police recruits to the ranks last month.

The recruits are: Catherine Garcia, Ariam Rivera, and Matthew Tartaglione (pictured in the photo above from left to right alongside Chief Gerald Narowski).

The recruits were scheduled to begin training at the CT Police Academy on Dec. 30 with a tentative graduation date of June 2017.

Here is a short bio about each candidate:

Catherine Garcia (age 25) is from New York and, more recently, New Haven. She was employed as a physical therapist aid. She is also a Second Lieutenant/platoon leader in the United States Army Reserves. Garcia is bilingual, and fluent in Spanish. She has a bachelor’s degree from Hunter College and is working toward a second degree in diet and nutrition.

Ariam Rivera (age 23) is from Bridgeport. He was born in Puerto Rico. He was employed as an educational coordinator in Norwalk through the city’s Housing Authority. He is also bilingual and fluent in Spanish. Rivera has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Bridgeport.

Matthew Tartaglione (age 29) is from Trumbull. He was employed as para professional in Fairfield. He has a bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State University, where he also played football. He has a master’s degree from Sacred Heart University.

The starting salary is $61,339.
