Tony Szewczyk, Former Derby Alderman, Has Passed Away

DERBY — Derby Town/City Clerk Marc Garofalo sent word Saturday morning regarding the passing of Tony Szewczyk, a straight-talking retired architect with a unique sense of humor who served the City of Derby in a number of capacities over the years.

Here is the town clerk’s message:

- – — – — – — – — –

It is with deep personal regret that I inform you of the passing of Tony Szewczyk on Friday June 7, 2019. He was the husband of Derby Board of Apportionment and Taxation Chair Judy Szewczyk and the father of Derby Finance Committee member Joseph Szewczyk.

Tony served the City of Derby in many capacities over the years, including Board of Alderman/Alderwomen, Planning and Zoning Commission, Parking Authority, and chairman of the Republican Town Committee. He was always very friendly, civil, and respectful to all his colleagues and citizens.

Please join Mayor Richard Dziekan and the entire City of Derby in expressing our deep condolences to the entire Szewczyk Family on the loss of their husband, father, and grandfather.

We will send wake and funeral information when they become available (update — Mr. Szewczyk’s obituary is available here).

May he rest in peace.

Expression of sympathy may be sent to:

The Szewczyk Family
