Torch Club Raises Money for Peanut Detecting Dog

The Torch Club, a youth leadership and community service club, worked to raise funds for Jeffery Glazer and his family to off set the cost of Jeffery’s Peanut Detecting Dog Riley.

Jeffery’s peanut allergy is very severe, but with Riley, he will be able to enjoy more freedom and more protection from potential harmful encounters with a peanut product of residue.

The Boys and Girls Club Shelton Unit’s Torch Club felt compelled to help with a PAWS For A Cause fundraiser.

They sold Smencils, which are pencils made from recycled paper and given a gourmet scent, and paper PAWS over the last month. They also invited the Glazer Family with Riley to the Club to show what a Peanut Detecting Dog can do.

The kids were very interested in Riley and ask a lot of questions,” said Jenna Hoffman, Torch Club President. Jeffery and his family are so nice, and Riley is absolutely adorable and a super smart,” added Hoffman.

A service dog like Riley costs over $10,000, but the benefits outweigh the cost. We were just glad to help, and I feel the kids have a new awareness of peanut allergies and a new appreciation for these wonderful dogs.” said Mike Neech“ Cannici, Torch Club Assistant Advisor.
