Tours Of New Derby Middle School Scheduled

Tours of the new Derby Middle School will be offered Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., city officials said.

The tours are being organized by the city’s Middle School Building Committee.

Brief remarks will be made at 11 a.m. by several Derby officials, including Superintendent of Schools Stephen Tracy, Mayor Anthony Staffieri and City Treasurer Keith McLiverty.

Tours will then be offered in small groups until 2 p.m.

The school is on Nutmeg Avenue, across from the current middle school, near Nutmeg’s intersection with Chatfield Street.

In March 2007, voters approved the allocation of $27 million to build the school, which is scheduled to open in January.

The project is expected to come in about $500,000 under budget, city officials have said.
