Derby Superintendent of Schools Stephen Tracy said he was asked to interview for an interim superintendent job in Torrington by a representative of the school district there.
His candidacy for the job was revealed Monday, in an article in the Torrington Register Citizen. NOTE: The website reported late Tuesday that the city’s school board went with another candidate. Click here for the story.
Tracy is one of six candidates who have been identified. The Torrington Board of Education is expected to continue its search for superintendent at a meeting Tuesday night, according to a report in the Torrington Register Citizen.
“The Torrington district is right next to where I live,” said Tracy, of Goshen. “A representative of the board called me and asked if I would be interested in speaking with them about this. That’s as far as it has gone.”
Tracy said he has not sought other positions in other districts.
His contract in Derby runs through June 2013.
He wouldn’t speculate about the position or the possible change, as the Torrington board is still reviewing several candidates.
“I don’t want to get ahead of myself,” Tracy said.
Tracy said he had told the Derby Board of Education that he was planning to talk with people in Torrington, because he was aware the information might become public.
