The Family
Treasured Time, Inc. is hosting the third annual Extra Innings Softball Marathon, starting on Saturday, September 10th. This year’s event will directly benefit our newest Treasured Time “gift of moments” recipient, Nicole Mather.
Nicole Mather, 43 of Derby, became sick at age 15.
After a few years of not knowing what was wrong and after various tests, she was diagnosed with lupus at just 17 years old.
Since then life has been very difficult for her.
Throughout her life she has been in and out of the hospital. When she was first diagnosed with lupus she had a major car accident where she nearly died. A priest had even given her last rights. Nicole defied the odds.
She found true love in her husband Brian. They were told they would never have children.
However, Nicole defied the odds again and was blessed with her “miracle baby” Austin, 18 years ago.
In recent years Nicole was diagnosed with diabetes and has suffered two severe strokes and three mini strokes.
She has APS lupus which means she creates blood clots all over her body, intensifying her susceptibility to strokes. At anytime Nicole could have a stroke that changes her life forever — but for right now Nicole does what she can to enjoy life despite her limitations.
“Nicole’s wish is to go to Vegas and renew her vows with her true love and have her son walk her down the aisle. They will be married 20 years this September,” said Cassandra O’Hara, of Treasured Time.
“Treasured Time is so excited to once again put on this fundraiser,” said Suzanne Major, the founder of Treasured Time. “The money we raise from this event will assist our newest families and we can’t wait to have everyone come down and join us at the stadium for two days of fun.”
The Fundraiser
This two-day event at Frank DeLuca Hall of Fame Stadium begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 and continues until 9 p.m.
It includes a “Home Run Derby” for both men and women, at 7:30 p.m.
The fun will pick up again at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 and conclude with a championship game at 7:30 p.m.
Sign up is limited to the first 40 teams consisting of at least 10 players per team, as each squad will play a one hour game.
Out of the 20 winning teams, the team who scored the most runs on Saturday will play the team that scored the most runs on Sunday on Sunday night at 7:30 to be crowned the champion and win a night in the Treasured Time Suite (no food/drinks included) at a Bluefish Game.
The Home Run Derby Champions will take home a Trophy and Dinner for 2 at Vazzy’s Cucina in Shelton.
“The great part about this event is that you don’t have to be a softball player to join in on the fun,” said event organizer and board member Jenn Moffat. “We have many companies and families, who have been affected by life-threatening illnesses, who come out to enjoy the day and support our mission. We match the teams up by skill level, so everyone is welcome to play. The weekend is really not about competition, it’s about the cause.”
The entry fee to participate is $250 per team, and the deadline to register is Sept. 6. Any interested Home Run Derby participants can enter for a $25 fee.
All of the entry fees from the teams and individuals will go towards making a difference in granting a wish of the one of the families that works with Treasured Time.
All proceeds raised from the Extra Inning Softball Marathon will benefit Treasured Time, whose mission is to grant the wishes of parents with life threatening illnesses to create a lasting memory with their children.
