A tractor-trailer on Francis Street is tangled in wires after accidentally taking out two utility poles at about 11:36 a.m.
There were no injuries reported — but the crash has caused 2,065 United Illuminating customers in Derby to lose power.
That’s 32 percent of all UI customers in Derby. As of 1:45, power was starting to come back for some residents in the east side of Derby.
However the power could remain off in the immediate accident zone for several hours.
The fire department, police and a crew from United Illuminating are all at the scene.
The truck was making a delivery to the Valley Publishing Co. The company routinely receives deliveries.
Police believe the wires the truck took out were hanging lower than usual.
Francis Street is off Hawkins Street, near the intersection with East Ninth Street.
The fire department also responded to a report of a person stuck in an elevator at the nearby Irving School. The elevator had stopped due to the accident.
Police said the driver was not at fault. He was not issued any ticket.
“God was with me today,” said the driver, Anderson Formiga, 30, of Danbury, pointing to where a telephone pole had crushed his cab and wires were hanging on his truck.
