There were no injuries reported after a box truck accidentally took out a large exhaust system behind Marisa’s Deli and Bakery at 495 River Road Wednesday.
The call came in at about 4 p.m. as a possible structure fire after people noticed smoke rising from the building.
Turns out a box truck clipped a mechanical unit mounted to the rear exterior wall of the building, Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora said.
The accident mangled a motor inside the exhaust unit, causing smoke to rise. There was no fire of any significance.
Firefighters were at the scene for about 15 minutes. Tortora expected the business to reopen quickly Wednesday evening because they have another venting system.
The exhaust system is used to vents ovens in the bakery.
