Trumbull Kennel Hopes For Quick Move To Shelton

A Trumbull kennel in need of a new home is hoping to move to Oliver Terrace.

TLC Kennels LLC, of 165 Monroe Turnpike, wants to build a commercial kennel at 40 Oliver Terrace.

It needs to do it quickly because it is embroiled in a legal battle with its landlord, said Timothy Herbst, the kennel’s lawyer.

He asked for a public hearing on the proposal, which the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission set for June 23.

We are operating under very stressful time constraints,” Herbst told the commission earlier this month.

TLC Kennels rents space in a building owned by MMR LLC, according to the Trumbull Tax Assessor’s office.

The landlord is seeking to evict the business because its lease expired in April, Herbst said. That leaves little time for relocation. The kennel is next door to the Mobile Veterinary Clinic.

A spokesperson for MMR, which has owned the building since 2005, was unavailable for comment.

The Oliver Terrace site is the best option for the business, according to Herbst.

It is very difficult to find a community that can house this type of use,” he said.

The zoning panel had wanted to set the public hearing for July 14 but that would have delayed moving the kennels until late August or early September, the attorney said.

Business would be hurt because summer is the busy season.

I’m booked July, August and September,” said Antionette Toni” Coppola-Braca, TLCs owner, who spoke briefly because she was choked with emotion.

She declined further comment after the meeting.

Richard Schultz, Planning and Zoning Administrator, endorsed the facility.

This is a state-of-the-art, completely enclosed kennel,” with internal drainage and sound-proofing technology, he said.
