Trumbull Police Officer Charged With First-Degree Sexual Assault

Perkowski

SHELTON – A 33-year-old Shelton resident employed as a sergeant with the Trumbull Police Department has been charged with rape.

Matthew Perkowski was charged with first-degree sexual assault and second-degree assault. He is free on a $150,000 bond pending a court appearance today (Wednesday, June 8).

A prepared statement from police contained no details.

However, The Shelton Herald reports the case has a long and convoluted history, and that Perkowski is also a volunteer firefighter. Click here to read the story.

An additional arrest is expected, police said. Update: Shelton police announced a second arrest Wednesday afternoon. John Scollin, 34, of Shelton, is also charged with first-degree sexual assault.

The arrest stems from a complaint the victim filed with police in September 2020.

Perkowski is on administrative leave from the Trumbull Police Department, according to a statement released by the department. The statement is posted below.
