An Ansonia man convicted of several counts of stun gun possession after a trial in June was sentenced to two years behind bars in the case Friday (Aug. 16).
Charles Spencer, 54, formerly of Howard Avenue, has a maximum release date of Aug. 13, 2015, according to Correction Department records.
A six-member jury convicted Spencer in June of six counts of illegally possessing stun guns, as well as a single count of possession of drug paraphernalia, after about two hours of deliberations.
A prior felony drug conviction on Spencer’s record meant he could not legally possess stun guns when police found them inside his home in 2010 and again in 2012.
He had faced up to 30 years behind bars in the case, but he was sentenced Friday at Superior Court in Milford to a five-year prison term to be suspended after he serves two years — the mandatory minimum prison sentence for stun gun possession by a convicted felon.
Spencer was fined $150 on the drug paraphernalia charge.
After he’s released from prison, Spencer will be on probation for three years.
