Two Charged In Shelton Home Invasion

Shelton police have charged two Derby men in connection with a December home invasion on Geissler Drive.

One of the men, 21-year-old Ricardo Llera, was charged with dealing drugs downtown last month.

He now faces new charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit home invasion, and intimidating a witness.

In a prepared statement, police said Llera knew the victims of the home invasion and was involved in planning” the crime.

The other suspect charged, Ray Sosa, 41, of Derby, faces charges of home invasion, conspiracy to commit home invasion, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, and criminal possession of a firearm.

Sosa has been behind bars since Jan. 25 after an arrest in Derby on drug charges. He is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby again March 29.

Llera is scheduled to appear in court March 11.

Police said the home invasion occurred Dec. 23 in Shelton.

The male and female homeowners at Geissler Drive reported that a Black and Hispanic male entered their home with a handgun and demanded money at gun point,” Detective Richard Bango said. It was reported the suspects stole cash, both the victims’ cell phones and other items. The victims were not harmed during the invasion.”

Bango said detectives identified Sosa as the Hispanic suspect involved in the home invasion.

They obtained a search warrant for his home on Minerva Street in Derby, where items taken during the home invasion were recovered, as well as the gun used in the crime.

Bango said the case is still under investigation and more arrests are expected.
