SEYMOUR — Police are investigating two crashes that happened 40 minutes apart Saturday.
The first crash was reported at 7:22 p.m. in the area of Derby Avenue and Rose Street, according to a statement released by police.
The first crash was preceded by a call to police reporting an erratic driver on Bank Street, then a report that a vehicle had taken out street signs and shrubbery at Derby and Rose. The vehicle kept going south on Derby Avenue.
“Officers responding to the scene located the operator and the vehicle with heavy damage on Derby Avenue by the Route 8 (southbound) on-ramp,” police said.
Law enforcement identified the driver as Nicholas Reich, 28, of Trumbull, and said he failed a field sobriety test. He was not injured.
In addition to driving under the influence, he was charged with failing to drive right of the centerline, evading responsibility, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
At 8 p.m. emergency responders received a second call regarding a motorcycle crash just north of the first wreck on Derby Avenue.
“The operator of the motorcycle was seriously injured and transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport,” according to police.
The motorcycle crash remains under investigation. Police said the two wrecks are not related.
Derby Avenue was closed until about 12:15 a.m. as police investigated.
