Two Men Hit By Car In Ansonia

One man has serious head injuries, and another has leg injuries, after being hit by a car on Bridge Street in Ansonia Friday evening. 

Police have not identified the pedestrians or the driver of the car. 

The accident remains under investigation. 

The accident happened when a man driving a white Pontiac sedan over the bridge on Bridge Street struck two men as the walked across the road in front of J.R.B.‘s bar, according to a woman who witnessed the accident. 

The woman, who declined to give her name, said the driver of the car had a green light and appeared to be driving at a moderate speed. 

Police closed off Bridge Street at Main and West Main, and diverted traffic down other routes Friday evening. 

Yellow caution tape cordoned off the scene, where the man’s shoes remained on the ground. 

Lt. Andrew Cota said police are still investigating the scene, and had nothing new to report on the nature of the injuries as of 7:30 p.m.

Both men were taken to area hospitals by Ansonia Rescue Medical Services.
