Two New Businesses Approved In Downtown Shelton

Bar 140

The bar will open at 140 Center St., where the former Center Street Cafe used to be located.

Owner and partner Joseph Ballaro said the bar will be called Bar 140. The business will employ four or five part-time employees.

Ballaro is from Shelton.

He plans to use some furniture from the former Richter’s bar in New Haven, which went out of business this year. He also wants to hang local art work on the walls, and have live acoustic music.

Earlier this month, Ballaro, his girlfriend Tiffany Negreiro, and his brother, Tom Ballaro, were preparing the space for the opening toward the end of the summer.

They plan to put in new plants around the bar’s outdoor patio, and have space for a piano inside the main bar room.

Ballaro said he wanted to open the bar in downtown Shelton because he sees Howe Avenue as a lively hangout.

It’s kind of a nightlife hot spot for the Valley,” he said.

Bar 140 will be open Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., Friday and Saturday from noon to 1:30 a.m. and Sunday from noon to 1 a.m.

Meditex Laundry

Larry Russo wants to open a commercial laundry service at 48 Bridgeport Ave.

Meditex Laundry will provide laundry service for doctor’s offices and nursing homes, Russo told the Planning and Zoning Commission.

It will have one delivery vehicle, two dryers, four washers and one presser, Russo said. It is not a laundromat for the general public.

Meditex plans to be open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
