Two People Shot In Ansonia

Fifth and Star

ANSONIA — Two men were shot near the intersection of Fifth and Star streets Tuesday at about 7:30 p.m.

They were taken to a hospital.

One of the victims is 19. He was in surgery as of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. The second is 63. He is in stable condition police said.

At about 7:30 tonight we received multiple 911 calls regarding shots fired and multiple victims,” Lt. Patrick Lynch said at the scene. Officers arrived in the area and located two victims and evidence of gunshots.”

There was no description of a suspect or suspect vehicle as of 9:15 p.m.

Police said they would issue an update as more details become available.

Detectives at the scene were taking photos of an older model Pontiac sedan. An evidence marker was placed on the roof just above the driver’s side door, which was partially open.

A single white sneaker was in the road near the car, along with other clothing.

Lynch said the shooting appeared to have taken place near that vehicle, which was parked on the street next to a three-story multi-family apartment house.

It was still daylight when the shooting happened. The neighborhood is heavily populated with lots of children.

It appears from initial witness statements and the evidence we found that the shooting took place close to the intersection of Fifth and Star Street,” Lynch said.

Officers were going door-to-door interviewing people in the neighborhood and checking for security cameras.

Several neighbors told The Valley Indy that they heard the noise but assumed it was fireworks.
