ANSONIA — Police said two people were shot in the area of Avon Street and Day Street Thursday night.
Both men are in area hospitals and police are investigating.
“The initial investigation revealed that an altercation between several people on Avon Street led to the shooting of both males. The investigation is ongoing and updates will be released as they become available,” police said.
Police received several 911 calls at about 10:30 p.m. from people reporting shots fired in the area of Avon Street and Day Street. Police also received a report that a gunshot victim had just arrived for treatment at Griffin Hospital, about a half mile away from the incident.
Police said a 43-year-old man had been shot several times and drove himself to the hospital. He was then transferred to another hospital to be treated for his wounds. Police said the 43-year-old man is in serious but stable condition.
A second victim, an 18-year-old male, was driven to the hospital by a private vehicle, too, police said.
“He was shot once and is in serious but stable condition,” according to the statement.
Thursday night’s shooting happened nine days after a 20-year-old Stratford man was shot and killed in a car on Hubbell Avenue in Ansonia’s north end. That April 5 shooting happened less than 24 hours after reports of shots fired on Prospect Street and Rockwood Avenue.
