DERBY – Two people were shot Thursday night on Fifth Street, Derby police said in a statement sent to The Valley Indy.
Police were sent to the location after receiving a report of gunfire at 11:54 p.m. Thursday (June 13).
Both victims were determined to have non-life threatening injuries. No additional details about the victims were released.
“Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Derby Police Department at 203 – 735-7811,” according to the statement. The case number is 24 – 5096.
A review of the emergency radio dispatches showed that police received at least two calls about the gunplay.
One caller told police that another person said shots were fired from a vehicle that was driving near Checkers, a convenience store at the corner of Elizabeth and Fifth streets.
Another initial caller reported seven to eight shots fired, according to a recording of the emergency radio transmission.
A police officer in a subsequent radio transmission put the incident on Fifth Street near Anson Street, and that shots may have been fired from the driver’s side rear seating area of the suspect vehicle, which fled the scene. A police officer radioed a short time later saying the incident may have started at Checkers and ended on Fifth toward Anson, with shots fired at both locations.
Fifth Street runs from Anson Street to Caroline Street in downtown Derby.
