Update: Car Crashes In Seymour And Shelton

The Seymour Police Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating a crash Tuesday night involving a police cruiser and another car near Walgreens on Route 67.

The Seymour officer was injured and taken to Griffin Hospital in Derby for evaluation and treatment, according to a written statement from Lt. Paul Satkowski, spokesman for the department.

He did not release the officer’s name.

The driver and the passenger in the second vehicle were also injured. They were taken to Waterbury Hospital.

The accident happened at 8:50 p.m. when the police car was traveling west on Route 67, Satkowski said.

As the Seymour police vehicle traveled past the Walgreens shopping center entrance, the passenger vehicle traveling east on Route 67 made an abrupt left turn in front of the police vehicle.

There’s no word on whether any tickets were issued.

A message seeking more information was left with Satkowski.

In Shelton, two people were transported to Bridgeport Hospital on trauma alert after their vehicle struck a utility pole in the area of 470 Huntington St. Emergency crews had to deal with live downed wires as they tried to get to the patients.

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to cut the two patients from their vehicle. One person was unconscious.

The Shelton crash happened at about 9:30 p.m.

Further details weren’t available Wednesday morning.

Police are investigating two car crashes that happened Tuesday night in Seymour and Shelton.

In Seymour, Route 67 was closed as of 11:43 p.m. after a police cruiser and a second vehicle collided. It is the second crash involving a Seymour police cruiser officer in seven days.

At 11 p.m. police and a Seymour firefighter at the Citizen Engine Co. said they couldn’t provide any details.

Readers on the Valley Indy Facebook wall reported that the crash happened in front of the new Walgreens.

An officer at the police department said a Lieutenant would release information Wednesday morning.

WTNH reported that the accident happened at 8:50 p.m., when a vehicle made an abrupt turn” in front of the police car.

Both the driver of the vehicle and the police officer were sent to the hospital with non life threatening injuries, WTNH reported.

Names were not released.
